History of The George

The George Harcourt Inn (opposite Cockington Green) was built in 1980 and named after a local landowner, George Harcourt. George was a bit of a lad in his time. He was a good businessman, a keen sportsman and, generally, an all round man’s man – and an Englishman to boot.

More recently, The George was taken over by a local family and as a result, underwent a face lift that has recharged this cosy meeting place for years to come.

We offer the best of live music, great food and a cool kick-back atmosphere, giving The George a unique ambiance.

This fine establishment has great appeal to those who don’t want the *kachink* of pokies and the constant drone of TV screens in the background. The noise has been replaced with the sounds of cruising music as a background for good conversation and relaxation.

You can find live local music acts at the George every Wednesday and Friday night, and Sunday lunches. The George fosters an ‘unplugged’ environment and a great atmosphere to enjoy a great meal or just some great live music. Check out our facebook page to keep up with upcoming events!
